Why you don't like the Bible.

Is it possible, that the reason you may not like the Bible, is because you have trouble understanding it?
The Bible is a guide for the direction of your life like a map.

Many people find that when they try to read the Holy Bible, they have difficulty understanding it.
II Peter 3:16 "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."

There are many reasons for this, …
…and in several posts we are going to look at five of these reasons.

The first reason
that you might have trouble understanding the Bible is because it is Gods Word.  This is easily a proven fact. When you consider there are really only three major religions in the world, Hindu, Christian, and Muslim. Hindus have hundreds of texts and gods who fight, disagree, and contradict one another, and the Muslim texts lean on the scriptures. So that leaves the Bible, which contains the Old Testament (Jewish writings) and the New Testament (Christian writings).  Unlike other religious texts, the Bible is very different. There is much proof that it truly is the very words of God (See Proof for the Bible).  The Bible tells us that God’s thinking and ways are far above ours.

Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

To comprehend this, I try to think of an ant climbing in and out of a light fixture.  The light goes on and off, he sees it there, he knows it exists, but he has no idea how it works or what makes it work. He never will. The thoughts and ways of God are even greater in comparison to our thinking, than we are to the ant on the light fixture.

Since the Bible
is the word of God, we can make the educated assumption that it will certainly be difficult to understand.  So if you are having difficulty understanding parts of the Bible, no worries.  Just get a good Bible dictionary (for some of the uncommon words), a concordance (or you can do a computer word search), and take to studying the verses you have difficulty with.  Allow the Bible to teach you and the context of the verses to define meanings.  We will look at more reasons for this problem, but until then, keep in mind that one reason people have trouble understanding the Bible is because it is the very words of God.
